The Joburg chapter of Worthogs was started about 10 years ago when the Joburg members got tired of trekking to Pretoria for a meeting and decided to hold a meeting in the intervening months between the Pretoria meetings.

It is traditionally held on the first Wednesday of odd numbered months i.e. Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep and Nov.  Occasionally the meeting is moved  a week later if it clashes with other events.  The chapter started meeting at SAB World of Learning when it was still SAB TI, and Andrew Downes was there to be able to host us, then it moved to Gilroys when Vincent took over and ran his shop from there where we were regaled by Steve Gilroys with his famous toast “Up yours” . Attendance started to drop as many considered Gilroys a bit too far to venture in the evening.

As of late 2016 the club has now moved to Northcliff to TJ Billies BBQ – which is much closer and we have seen many members return.

Each meeting consists of  the following – members and their guests arrive from about 18:30 and pay for the meeting and receive a free meal and a beer.  Then we have one or more lectures or discussions, and follow up with league tastings were members bring their home brews and get them critiqued by other home brewers.  There is an annual prize for the league tasting, and a member from this chapter won it in 2016.
